The fortress called Stari grad (Old town) is today’s home to Gradski muzej (Town Museum). It is one of the most impressive buildings in Varazdin. The old town blossomed during the sixteenth century when it went through a rebirth as a renaissance fortification. Later it became the property of nobility Erdödy, who changed its appearance and made it baroque. The downtown consists of a row of palaces of different noble families that had been built up until nineteenth century. Varazdin is the perfect town for sightseeing by just talking a walk and admiring the architecture.
