A little further away, L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue awaits you. Because of its many canals, this place is also called the Venice of Provence. Small bridges and old paddlewheels underline the charm of this small town, which is also a highlight for antique lovers. Avignon on the banks of the Rhone is a must-see. Experience its fortifications, the renowned bridge that ends abruptly in the river, and the impressive Papal Palace. From Avignon, you can join a river cruise all the way to the Mediterranean. To the east, the Luberon beckons with a regional nature park and charming mountain villages, such as Gordes, Lacoste and Bonnieux. Also worth a trip: Fontaine-de-Vaucluse with the picturesque source of the Sorgue and the ocher rocks and quarries of Rustrel. The bizarrely shaped mountain ridges of the Dentelles de Montmirail rise above the wine-growing areas of the Côtes du Rhône, known for their high-quality wines from Gigondas, Vacqueyras or Cairanne, for example. Discover also the Alpilles or the Drôme Provençale with its rolling hills and many olive groves. Walks among fields of sunflowers, poppies, and fragrant lavender are unforgettable moments here.
