The region is also home to many integral parts of world history; from the city of Rouen, where the military leader and Catholic saint Joan of Arc was executed in 1431, to Omaha beach, the site of the D-Day landing, widely considered to be the decisive battle that secured a victory for the Allied forces in World War II.
