The eastern part of Slovenia is divided into regions Savinjska, Podravska and Pomurska. Savinjska is dominated by vineyards, rolling hills, mountain valleys and nature parks, meaning that the region is popular with both nature and wine-lovers for their self-catering holidays in our Slovenia accommodation. In addition, the region attracts visitors who travel to Slovenia hoping for rest and relaxation because of the country's numerous excellent spas and thermal baths.
The vast and untouched nature of Savinjska is best explored and enjoyed while cycling. A bike ride along a river and through the rolling hills and vineyards is a special treat for all visitors during their stay in our self-catering Slovenia accommodation. There are even eighteen well-designed cycle paths in the lower Savinjska but there are plenty more in all other regions as well, so Slovenia is a real haven for lovers of active holidays.
You will soon find that you should decide to spend your next holiday in our Savinjska accommodation that there are so many different things to do in Slovenia and no shortage of sights to see or experiences to be had. One of our favorite attractions in Slovenia would have to be the spectacular 'Hell Cave' (Jama Pekel), which exhibits various stalactites, rock walls and two underground streams, making for an exceptional and unique experience during your self-catering holidays in our Slovenia accommodation. A highlight of the cave is the 13 ft. high waterfall – the highest underground waterfall of Slovenian caves.
In the distance, you can see the Old Castle of Celje, the largest castle in Slovenia, which is perched on a hill south-east of the old town. Walk in the footsteps of history and enjoy the magnificent view as well as a glimpse into the history of Slovenia. Alternatively, if you are hoping to relax and recharge your batteries, then we would suggest a visit to Olimje. In the south is Olimje, a health resort that stands on a hillside at the end of the valley and is equipped with baroque, decorative elements that make it so special. Visit the neighboring regional park Kozjansko. Do not miss visiting the lovely town of Mozirje. If you enjoy skiing Golte is the place for you. If you decide to do only one trip while in Savinjska, it should without a shadow of a doubt be the beautiful valley of Logarska dolina.
Celje is the third largest city in the country and is home to a variety of cultural highlights. The town boasts well-preserved medieval architecture in the center and is filled with a host of historic attractions. For example, you can visit the Museum Square on the left bank of the Savinja and the Regional Museum. Walk in the footsteps of history and visit the Old Castle, perched on a hill high above the city, which offers an outlook alongside historical ambience to the Alps. A visit to the city is a great way to soak up some modern Slovenian culture and gain a bit of insight into the local day-to-day way of life.
